Monday at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport
Elena, Emma, and Me wishing the President a safe trip.
Is it just me, or do you kinda get a hankering for some Doublemint gum?
Elena snapped this one just prior to take-off.

So much to do... So little time... When we first learned we were pregnant I thought we would never see the day when our little one was here. Ten months is quite a long time to wait when you grow up in the land of instant gratification. Now, six months later, as we kick things into high gear in preparation for the arrival of precious Emma, I worry that there is not enough time left. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I can't wait to meet her, or I am getting cold feet, it's just that I want everything to be just right for her when she gets here. As Elena and I go through the laundry list of things that we still need to do and the weekends left to do them, it becomes quite clear that we are running out of time. Emma's birthday is estimated to be October 15th, that gives us four months to:

  • Visit local hospital maternity facilities and register with one
  • Attend Lamaze classes
  • Attend Infant/Child CPR classes
  • Attend Breastfeeding classes
  • Attend Baby Care classes
  • Complete our baby registry
  • Prepare for the Baby Shower
  • Pick colors for Emma's room
  • Buy & build baby furniture
  • Paint Emma's room
  • etcetera, etcetera, etcetera...

I know I shouldn't worry and Emma will love us just the same regardless of how prepared everything is for her, but as a first-time father-to-be I really don't want to disappoint her.

This was a busy week for us as I imagine all will be from this point going forward. Monday we had the opportunity to see President Bush depart Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, Wednesday Elena had a scheduled visit with her OB-GYN, Friday we met with the Perinatal specialist for a follow-up visit. We got to watch another 30 minute installment of Emma TV. She is so beautiful! We reconfirmed her sex with a different technician and watched Emma tumble and stretch inside her Mommy's womb. I really think she knows when we are watching her because she always puts on quite a performance. She is getting more and more active to the point where even I can feel her movements with more force and consistency. Elena has been playing Mozart in the car for her on the way to and from work, as well as some of her favorite childhood songs. Today we toured two hospitals in our area to get a feel for their neonatal care facilities. I think we came to an agreement as to which one we will be delivering at. Elena will be registering with it this week. Well, at least that's one thing off the list.
