This week a shower
was thrown for Emma at Elena's work. Elena and I cannot thank
those in attendance enough for celebrating this very special
time with us as we inch our way closer to our special day. Many
people made many personal sacrifices to put it together for her
and
for that
we
are deeply
grateful. Emma received a bunch of gifts including her bassinet which I promptly assembled. It is currently undergoing quality
assurance testing by Emma the frog to assure it has been assembled
correctly and is structurally sound.
We also received a swing for Emma from her Aunt
(Ann), Uncle (Sam) and cousin (Jessie).
I slapped that puppy together as well and placed it in Emma's
room.
This Saturday we hit
week 30 of our 40 week journey. We are now over 75% of the way
through. Somebody might want to tell Emma that though because
she is acting like she wants to come out now. She has really
been active lately; kicking, tumbling, punching. I'm not kidding...
I am getting concerned that we won't last another 10 weeks if
she
remains
this active. Elena is feeling a considerable amount of pain and
discomfort at this point when Emma acts up. We try playing soothing
music for her at night, lullabies and such, but Emma won't have
it. She moshes and slam dances in protest. I am not sure how
we are going to make it to the finish line at this rate. We did
read, in one of Elena's pregnancy books, that the baby is most
active between week 30 and 32 so I suppose what we are experiencing
is normal.
I
just
feel bad because I can feel Emma's strikes and stretches on the
outside. I can't imagine what that feels like for Elena. Her
facial expressions suggest it doesn't feel good though.
On Friday of this week
Elena and I went to her OBGYN's office for a routine visit.
Elena did her glucose blood screening. This is where they make
her
drink
a
cup of sweet
sugary
juice
and then draw her blood an hour later. The test is for gestational
diabetes. We will get the results later this week.
